New parliament hall in Schwerin Castle

The new plenar hall was officially opened on 26 september 2017

On tuesday 26 september 2017 the new plenar hall of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania was ceremoniously initiated in occasion of a festive event. In addition to the members of the parliament, a wide range of public representatives were invited. All former presidents of the parliament had promised their participation. The keynote lecture was held by the president of the German Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert.
On saturday 23 september 2017 from 1 to 4 pm there already was an opportunity for the public to visit the plenar hall.

„Das Volk ist in einer Demokratie der Souverän. Dass die Bürgerinnen und Bürger die ersten sind, die noch vor der offiziellen Eröffnung einen Blick in diese zentrale Stätte der demokratischen Auseinandersetzung werfen, ist daher konsequent,“ says Sylvia Bretschneider president of the parliament.

segment from the notification of the parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern:

"the jury has unanimously decided to declare the design of „Dannheimer + Joos Architekten“ the winner of the competition. At the same time declaring three third prizes and thus letting the parliament know whose design is favoured by the jury. The winning design outstands, says head of jury Joachim Brenncke, because it yields to the specifics of the castle and reinterprets a heritage building very modernly."
